Want to know one of the best things you can do for your mental health?

Most of us are walking around in a constant state of “fight or flight” without even realising it. Our brains (specifically the amygdala) are stuck in high alert mode, always scanning for danger, even when we’re safe.

That’s why you might feel anxious, edgy, exhausted, or like you’re running on fumes all the time.

It’s not just in your head. Your nervous system is trying to protect you. It needs some help to calm down.

Here are 3 gentle ways to start supporting yourself:

1️⃣ Breathe slower than you think you need to

Slowing your breath tells your body it’s safe. Try breathing in for 4 counts and out for 6. Do that for a few minutes and feel the shift.

2️⃣ Move your body gently

You don’t need a workout - just stretch, sway, go for a slow walk, or even shake it out. It helps your body release all that built-up tension.

3️⃣ Get back into the moment

Look around you. Name 5 things you see, 4 you hear, 3 you can touch. It’s a simple way to ground yourself when your thoughts feel loud.

If you’re craving more calm and want to learn how to actually feel safe in your body again, I’ve put together a free guide with 3 relaxing exercises that I use with my clients and in my own life.

Click here to get it for free — it’s simple, practical, and honestly, such a good place to start.

If you’d like some more 1:1 support in this space, whether you're feeling anxious, burnt out, or just disconnected from yourself, I’d love to walk alongside you.

You don’t have to navigate it all on your own.

You can book a counselling or coaching session by emailing me at mandy@mandyperkins.co.za or visiting my website here, and we can work together to gently calm the chaos and help you find your way back to yourself.
