When You Feel Like You’ve Lost Yourself

You look at a photo from a few years ago and feel a quiet ache.

Not just because of how you looked, or where you were, but because of who you were.

Carefree. Motivated. More sure of yourself.

Now, you’re not even sure what you want for dinner, let alone what you want for your life.

You’re not alone.

Losing yourself doesn’t happen all at once.

It’s subtle.

It can happen in motherhood, in grief, in relationships, in a demanding job, or during a major life change.

It can come after a trauma or just from years of putting everyone else first.

You start by compromising here and there.

Skipping the things that once lit you up.

Saying "I'm fine" when you're anything but.

Telling yourself there's no time, or that it’s just a season.

And one day, you wake up… and you don’t recognise the woman in the mirror.

You’re not broken. You’re just buried.

Buried under the weight of expectations.

Under unprocessed emotions.

Under the roles you’ve taken on - mother, partner, daughter, leader, caretaker.

But you are still in there.

The vibrant, creative, curious, soft, silly, spiritual, strong version of you.

She didn’t disappear. She’s just been surviving.

Here are a few gentle questions to begin reconnecting with her:

🟡 When did I last feel most like myself?

🟡 What parts of me have I silenced to be “what others needed”?

🟡 What do I miss about me?

🟡 If I could give myself permission to do one thing this week just for me, what would it be?

Let these questions meet you where you are - not to fix anything, but to start listening again.

How counselling can help

In my work with women, this feeling, “I don’t know who I am anymore", comes up more often than you’d think.

Counselling offers a space to:

  • Speak honestly without being told to “be grateful”
  • Explore your identity beyond your roles
  • Grieve the parts of you that feel lost
  • Gently uncover what you need now, in this season of life

It’s not about going back to who you were.

It’s about becoming more of who you truly are - now, with everything you’ve lived through.

If this resonates, I want you to know something:

You don’t have to find yourself alone.

You deserve to be supported through this rediscovery.

You’re invited to book a counselling session, or reach out if you're not sure where to begin.

This is sacred work, and you're worth showing up for.
